You have to measure the diameter of the bolt to determine the thread size. Afterwards you have to look up the diameter if necessary. Now chamfer the bolt with a file to give it a conical shape. Now you have to put the die guide into the die holder and fix it with the screws. It makes no difference how around the die is inserted, because it has a bevel on both sides. Then clamp the bolt in the vice and place the die guide on the bolt. Then you oil the die with thread cutting fluid and cut a thread.
